Eastern Water and Sanitation Company has identified a financer to bankroll the US$ 300 million for rehabilitation of water and Sanitation system in the province.
Company Managing Director, Aaron Mulinda, says the financer, whose Memorandum of Understanding has been signed, will move on site to do needs assessment before signing a contract.
Mr. Mulinda says the financer will move on site before the end of the month.
The Managing Director said this yesterday when Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection, Raphael Nakacinda, inspected water infrastructure projects in Petauke.
He says the project will see the rehabilitation of the water and Sanitation system as well as installing new water schemes.
Mr. Mulinda says the project to be done under the Public Private Partnership will also see the rural settlement program being implemented.
Mr. Nakacinda urged the water utility to ensure that the project is implemented.
He said Zambian engineers and locals should participate and benefit from the project through skills transfer and job creation respectively.
Meanwhile, government has released K300,000 towards the construction of a water and Sanitation system in Kacholola district, Eastern province.
This came to light when Mr. Nakacinda commissioned the construction works at Kacholola main market.
The Minister said the project will provide clean and safe water to the residents of Kacholola who have never seen tap water and only depended on a few boreholes.
