The construction of the US$5.4 million Mbala water supply and sanitation project is nearing completion ahead of the scheduled project timeline.

The water and Sanitation project has exceeded 90 percent of construction works commenced in June last year was expected to be completed in November this year.

This came to light yesterday when Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection, Raphael Nakacinda, inspected the project in Mbala.

Mr. Nakacinda said the water expansion project, which is under the Integrated Small towns water supply and sanitation project, will benefit over 80,000 Mbala residents.

He says strategic and robust water infrastructure systems are important in the social and economic development of the country.

“It is for this reason government has invested in water infrastructure,” Mr. Nakacinda said.

The Minister, who is on a familiarisation tour of Northern, Muchinga and Luapula provinces says Mbala District is an agricultural hub that is utilizing the water services.
