Government has released K1 million to Lukanga Water Supply and Sanitation Company for the completion of Water projects in Serenje District, Central province.
Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Raphael Nakacinda said government is determined to ensure that people have access to clean and safe water.
Mr Nakacinda said this today when he inspected Water projects in Serenje.
“It is President Edgar Lungu’s aspirations to ensure his administration achieves the 2030 target of ensuring that people have access to clean and safe water, hence the continuous investment in the water sector,” Mr Nakacinda said.
Mr. Nakacinda said he will engage his Ministry of Finance counterpart, Bwalya Ng’andu, to ensure more funds are given to such priority projects.
The Minister has also urged the water utility company to come up bankable project that ensure sustainability and expansion of the water reticulation system in the district.
And Lukanga Water Supply and Sanitation Company Managing Director, Yoram Sinyangwe, has commended the government for the investment in the project.
“With this kind of support from Government, I can assure you Honourable Minister that the water situation in the district will significantly improve,” Mr Sinyangwe said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nakacinda urged civil servants in the district to observe professionalism as the country goes to August 12 2021 general election.
He said their work should remain patriotic despite being in an election year.
The Minister said this when paid a courtesy call Serenje District Commissioner Musonda Chunga.
He said work should not suffer due to elections, but ensure that the country is served accordingly so that everyone benefits regardless of their political affiliation.
