Government has invested about K6 million in rehabilitating obsolete filters at Bulangililo and Nkana East Water Treatment plants in Kitwe.
Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Minister, Jonas Chanda disclosed this when he inspected ongoing works at the plants.
The works are at 80 percent completion point.
Dr. Chanda says the rehabilitation of the filters at the two Water Treatment Plants will improve the provision of clean and safe water to Kitwe residents.
He says President Edgar Lungu remains resolute in investing in the water sector in order to realize the aspirations of the Vision 2030.
Meanwhile, Dr. Chanda has announced that his Ministry is engaging potential investors to set up plants for the manufacturing of water treatment chemicals in Lusaka and Copperbelt Provinces.
The Minister says this will not only reduce the cost of treating water for commercial utilities but will also provide employment opportunities for the locals.
Dr. Chanda says the move is in line with Government’s industrialization policy which will increase exports as the chemicals will be exported.
