Sunday, 1st November 2020, Lufwanyama – Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Minister, Jonas Chanda has directed Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company to engage Lufwanyama Municipal Council to start the process of providing piped water and sanitation services to the people in the district.
Dr. Chanda made the directive when he called on Chieftainess Shimukunami at her palace in Lufwanyama District.
Dr. Chanda notes that despite the growing population in Lufwanyama District, there is no utility company that is providing residents with clean and safe water as well as sanitation services.
The Minister says Government will support the utility company as it embarks on the implementation of the directive.
The Minister has urged the water utility company to come up with project proposals that will guide on how to ensure that water is made available to the people.
He says President Edgar Lungu is keen to see that every part of the country provided with potable water.
Meanwhile, Chieftainess Shimukunami has expressed gratitude to Government for its continued commitment to address the challenges in the country.
Chieftainess Shimukunami has also pledged to work with Government and assured Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company of her support.
She has since praised President Lungu for empowering 15 chiefdoms with 5 boreholes each.
And Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company Managing Director, Diana Makwaba informed the Minister that her Institution will immediately commence feasibility studies.
