Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection, Dennis Wanchinga has called on the National Water supply and sanitation Council – NWASCO, to closely work with his Ministry to ensure that President Edgar Lungu’s vision of having improved access to water and sanitation services is attained
The Minister has since instructed the council to advise Government on the functions of water supply matters in order to serve the people of Zambia with potable water and sanitation services.
The new board members include Mr. Tobias Musonda, Mr. Joe Simachela, Dr. Phillip Mubanga, Mr. Luyamba Kapembwa, Mrs Ngoza Munthali, Mr. Laurian Hangaala and Mrs Matilda Shatunka.
Dr. Wanchinga has further directed the new board to urgently address the issue of High revenue Water, which he notes poses a huge negative impact on the provision of water supply, currently at 50.6 percent compared to industry acceptance level of 25 percent.
And Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mabvuto Sakala said the appointment of the board will allow the Ministry to concentrate on its core mandate of providing policy direction to NWASCO and other statutory bodies under the Ministry.
