Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Permanent Secretary, Mabvuto Sakala says more than 10, 000 customers across the country that had their houses disconnected before the outbreak of the Corona Virus (COVID -19), have been reconnected.
Mr. Sakala says the reconnection which was done at no fee, is part of the measures being put in place to accelerate prevention and the spread of COVID -19.
He says clean and safe water is critical in the fight against COVID -19 as outlined by the guidelines by the Ministry of Health.
Mr. Sakala has appealed to clients to continue paying their water bills to avoid accumulation of debt.
The Permanent Secretary said this today when he appeared on ‘Let the People Talk’ Radio Programme on Phoenix FM.
He says Government working in partnership with Cooperating Partners and Civil Society Organizations is ensuring that clean and safe water as well as sanitation services are provided.
He has revealed that 72 per cent of the population has access to water while 54 per cent has access to adequate sanitation services.
