We celebrate this important occasion of unveiling the newly appointed board of Directors for the Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA). This event marked a momentous occasion for WARMA as we witnessed the unveiling of the Board that is expected to propel the policy and strategic direction of the institution for the next three (3) years.
Water ranks only next to air in importance in sustaining all forms of life, but additionally, water plays a critical role in the socio-Economic development of our country. It is a requirement in the functioning of various productive sectors of the economy, ranging from agriculture to manufacturing, mining, tourism, and other industries. We depend on water for electricity generation. Over 90% of our power needs are met through water-based generation.
Some of the functions the Board will be undertaking will be to ensure that Warma meets these objectives, and additionally, and in accordance with act no. 21 of 2011, specifically to: –
- A) Provide policy guidelines to WARMA;
- B) Grant water permits and licences;
- C) Establish guidelines and standards; and
- D) Make recommendations for the review of the Act, rules or any regulation.
